Is it normal to use a pick in playing bass?

This isn't really a slap-bass question, but someone asked.... so, here's the answer: Yes, it's perfectly normal to use the pick to play a bass guitar. In fact, there are many tremendous bassists that use picks. It may be more common, though, for bass players to use their fingers. It's all a matter of personal choice, based on the sound & feel you like. It is not normal, however, to use a pick when slapping the bass. Slapping is usually done with the thumb and fingers.
